What Kind of People are Suppose to Be?

Have you ever thought about it, what kind of people should we be? I haven't until I got this book called: Becoming a Contagious Christian by Bill Hybels and Mark Mittelberg. It has some interesting stuff in along with good Scriptures. But I read these verses:

2 Peter 3:10-11a (NIV) But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything in it will be laid bare. Since everything will be destroyed in this way, what kind of people ought you to be?

See, even God asks that question in the Bible. The earth as we know it won't be here anymore. It will be destroyed. No cars, no houses, no businesses, no buildings of any type or statues or anything that we have made while we have been on this planet. No trees, flowers, grass, animals or even the ocean. And the sun will be gone too. Do you really want to be here when all that is destroyed, poof gone? So again what kind of people are we to be? The answer is in the second part of 2Peter 3:11b:

2Peter 3:11b (NIV) You ought to live holy and godly lives.

Which means to me to be striving for the goal of Jesus Christ, living for Him and by Him. Accepting Him as Lord and Savior, reading our God given instruction on life, The Holy Bible and talking with Him through prayer. Living according to His standards which is based on the 10 commandments. It's always a work in progress but as long as that progress is towards Him, then it should work. Nobody says were perfect because we are not and yes, we do fall off the wagon but you just pick yourself up and get back on. But here's a Scripture I'm adding into this.

2Peter 3:9 (NIV) The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.

Eventually there will be only to places you can go when He returns or if you die before that happens. Heaven or hell. This scripture to states that he is not slow but waiting on everyone to make their choice. He wants everyone to come to heaven and live with him for ever. He doesn't want to send anyone to hell but unfortunately that will be one of the choices.

1Timothy 2:4 (NIV) who wants all men to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.

So won't you consider the choice of heaven, celebrating and worshipping Him and see all those who have gone on before? I can't wait to meet some of those people along with Jesus Christ himself. He's waiting for you, come on an join me and others.

You see according to these Scriptures the Lord is coming like a thief. We don't know when that day is but He is coming to take His church home. Then everything on the earth will be destroyed, even heaven for a new heaven and a new earth is coming.

Revelation 21:1 (NIV) Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea.
