Who's Plans

Did you make plans for your life when you were in middle or high school?  One of my friends and I made plans in elementary school to go look for the sunk ship the Andrea Doria, when we grew up.  Don't know why or how we ever got the idea to look for it.

Then there are the should of, could of, would of's and the "if's".  My childhood dream was to become an astronaut.  Love outer space but did I bother to ask how to get to that point.  No.  Didn't know I had to go into the Air Force to go to the moon back in the day.  One thing I do have that I was going to do if I ever had a baby girl, was name her Tabitha spelled with an i not an a.  I watched a lot of Bewitched back in those days and just loved that name.  And I have that girl and have had her named picked out since about the 5th grade.

Then those "if's" come into the picture of my life sometimes. If I only did this or if I had done that, where would I be today if I had done those "if's".  But you know what, our plans we make or have made may not be the plans God has for us.  We can plan but we may never take those steps on our own, God  may determine those steps instead.

Proverbs 16:9 (ESV)  The heart of man plans his way, but the LORD establishes his steps.

Only He knows our future.  He is our hope.

Jeremiah 29:11 (NIV)  "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future"

There may be nations and governments that make plans for their country but guess what?  The Lord has His own plans and there is nothing that is going to stand in the way of His plans and not a single person will stand in His way either.

Psalm 33:10-11 (NIV)  The LORD foils the plans of the nations; he thwarts the purposes of the peoples.  But the plans of the LORD stand firm forever, the purposes of his heart through all generation.

But if you commit your life and work to the LORD, then your plans will succeed.

Proverbs 16:3 (ESV)  Commit your work to the LORD and your plans will be established.

What ever your plans are in your life, the Lord may change them for He knows best.

This is an issue that I struggle with from time to time. The promise God gives us in Jeremiah 29:11 always brings tears to my eyes. It both encourages and convicts me.

Thank you for writing this post. It was something I needed to be reminded of today. And the promise in Proverbs 16:3 was one I didn't remember.

God bless you!
